Advocating for  Effective Mental Health Policy

I've been involved in mental health advocacy for decades - since my son was diagnosed with severe schizophrenia at the age of 16. After being very involved as a parent advocate, I immersed myself in mental health policy and the legislative process and have now served as a registered lobbyist for decades.

My work demands a clear understanding of policies and bills that will impact the delivery of mental health throughout California. Along with that requirement is building trusted relationships with legislators and staff members.

I represent a wide variety of organizations and interests impacted by proposed legislation in the mental health arena. Sometimes I'll be working to advocate for passage of policies that will enhance mental health care in the state and, likewise, defeat proposals that threaten quality care.

Effective advocacy requires in-depth knowledge of historical legislation that advanced quality treatment and care in California.  In addition, it calls for relationship-building with members of the State Senate and Assembly as election cycles bring changes.

My work demands knowledge of historical policies as well as analysis of new mental health measures. With decades of experience as a professional legislative advocate, as well as my personal experience as a parent to a son living with a disabling mental illness, I've personally experienced the impact of public policy on personal lives. My professional life is dedicated to fostering policies that provide options, treatment and equity
